Terms

The deal between you and BoomBox.

Last updated October 7, 2026

These terms cover the BoomBox iOS app and the boombox.reviews website. By creating an account or using BoomBox, you agree to them. If you do not, do not use BoomBox.

How we handle your information is a separate document: the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

1. Who can use BoomBox

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for agreeing to terms like these. You must not be barred from using BoomBox under the law of your country, and you must not be someone we have previously banned.

2. Your account

You sign in with Apple. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and for keeping access to your Apple ID secure. One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone, do not run an account on behalf of a banned user, and do not sell or transfer your account.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings, then Delete Account. The Privacy Policy explains what happens next, including the 30-day window before everything is erased.

3. Your content stays yours

You own the reviews, ratings, lists, comments, and images you post. We do not claim ownership of any of it.

To actually run the app, we need your permission to handle it. You grant BoomBox a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt for formatting and display, publish, and distribute the content you post, for the purpose of operating and promoting BoomBox. Specifically, this covers:

  • Showing your content in the app to other users.
  • Rendering it into share images and into public pages on boombox.reviews when you or another user shares it, which makes it visible to anyone with the link.
  • Including it in aggregate features such as stats, leaderboards, and recommendations.

This license ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to the retention window described in the Privacy Policy, and except for copies other people have already saved or shared.

A list you build with collaborators is shared work. If you delete your account, the list passes to one of your collaborators, and the license above continues for its title and description so they can keep it. The albums you added are removed.

You confirm you have the right to post what you post, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

4. What you may not do

  • Harass, threaten, bully, or incite violence against anyone.
  • Post hate speech targeting people for who they are, sexual content involving minors, or content that promotes self-harm.
  • Post spam, run bots, buy or sell engagement, or create accounts in bulk.
  • Impersonate another person, artist, or organization.
  • Post anything unlawful, or anything that infringes copyright or trademark.
  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download BoomBox, or hit our API in ways the app does not.
  • Reverse engineer the app, probe our infrastructure, or work around blocks, mutes, rate limits, bans, or any other restriction.
  • Upload audio files or attempt to distribute music through BoomBox.

5. Reporting, moderation, and enforcement

Every review, comment, list, and profile has a report option, and you can block or mute any user. We review reports and may remove content, limit an account, suspend it, or ban it permanently.

We aim to act proportionately and to tell you when we act on your account. If you think we got it wrong, reply to the notice or email us and we will look again. We do not pre-screen content, and we are not obliged to remove content simply because it was reported.

6. Album data, stores, and streaming services

BoomBox is a review and discovery app. It is not a music service and it does not stream music to you. Album artwork, tracklists, and catalog data come from Apple Music, and further album details, styles, and store and streaming links come from the open MusicBrainz and Discogs databases. That data remains the property of Apple, those projects' contributors, and the rights holders. Playback, where offered, happens through Apple Music and requires your own Apple Music subscription. Your use of Apple Music through BoomBox is also governed by Apple's terms.

Store and streaming links take you to services we do not run. What you do there, including anything you buy, is between you and that service, under its terms.

7. Price

BoomBox is free and has no subscriptions or in-app purchases. If we introduce paid features, we will give you notice, nothing you already have will start costing money without your agreement, and canceling will never be harder than signing up.

8. Changes to BoomBox

We are actively building this, so features will change, and some will be removed. We may suspend or stop the service. If we shut BoomBox down, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export your reviews.

9. Ending things

You can stop using BoomBox and delete your account whenever you want. We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if keeping it open would expose other users to harm. Sections 3, 10, 11, 12, and 14 survive termination.

10. No warranty

BoomBox is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that it will preserve your content. Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose.

Other users write what they write. We are not responsible for their content or their conduct.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, BoomBox is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising from your use of the service.

Our total liability to you for any claim relating to BoomBox is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits. Where that is the case, they apply to you only as far as the law permits, and nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of content you posted or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and damages in defending it.

13. Changes to these terms

We will update the date at the top when these change, and tell you in the app before material changes take effect. Continuing to use BoomBox after that means you accept the new terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [TODO: governing law], without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts of [TODO: venue] have exclusive jurisdiction, except that you may bring a claim in your local courts where consumer protection law gives you that right.

15. Apple

These terms are between you and BoomBox, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to provide support for it. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, which is zero. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo, and are not on any US Government restricted-party list.

16. Everything else

BoomBox is operated by [TODO: legal entity name]. If part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing something once does not waive it. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us. We may transfer our rights under these terms to a successor; you may not transfer yours.
